BP SITE SERVICES PORTAL
"We needed a 21st century solution to the problem of informing people of what services they can expect to receive at our sites. IMGROUP were able to deliver this."
Peter Robinson, Budget Controller for Site Services
Client Background
BP Plc is one of the world’s largest petroleum and petrochemicals groups. Each day BP serves around 13 million customers in more than 100 countries across 6 continents. More than 100,000 people work for BP. Site Services is a department within BP that manages the site buildings to provide fully serviced office facilities.
Business Problem
Site tenants did not have a single point of entry to access current service information such as health and safety, cleaning and catering. Leaflets and guidebooks that had previously been distributed became quickly out of date and were not updated often enough.
The Solution
A data-driven information portal was developed on the BP intranet, enabling every BP employee to have access to up to date service information. The integrated content management system allows a site editor to edit the content within the website itself without any prior knowledge of the underlying database or the HTML code.
Technical Architecture
The portal utilises a 2-tier server architecture using Microsoft SQL Server for the database and IIS/ASP for the application and presentation logic. This architecture was implemented for easier deployment and integration with the existing computer environment.
Business Benefits
The site enables tenants to access service information via a single point of entry, quickly and efficiently, saving the users time. Users can be assured that the content they are viewing is current and any updates are communicated immediately.
